Former members of the Imo state House of Assembly from 1979 have showered encomiums on the commissioner of police in the state. Danjuma Aboki and the Sector commander RS9 41 FRSC Imo state, Commander Evaristus Ebeniro for drastically reducing the tempo of crime and criminality as well as road mishaps in the state.
The ex-legislators noted that while normalcy had returned in some previous volatile and highly dreaded parts of the state, Hotels, School, business centres, markets and the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport now operate unhindered, effective control of traffic and reduction of road accidents had become manifest since the two top government officials assumed duty.
“Th former lawmakers in the state, acting under the aegis of the Association of former Imo lawmakers” stated this when the … executives of their body led by the Chairman-Prince Ugochukwu Nzekwe called on Aboki and Ebeniro in their offices in Owerri.
Prince Nzekwe- a former minority leader and a 2-time member of the state legislature noted that the police had been doing well in the fight against insecurity since the arrival of Aboki as CP, adding that while residents in the state now sleep with their two eyes closed and now about their normal daily businesses without fear of molestation, traffic congestion and reduction of accidents on the roads had become quite glaring. He also commended Governor Hope Uzodinma for his relentless efforts to tackle insecurity, in the state stressing that the operation Search and Flush put in place had continued to yield the desired results.
The former Lawmaker explained that the visit was to inform the CP and the FRSC Sector Commander of the existence of his Association and to introduce the executives to them even as he pledged their support and collaboration with their Establishments in the fight against insecurity and further elimination of incidents on the roads.
While pleading with the police chief to beam more security light on LGAs that are still prone to violence, Nzekwe- a German trained Security management guru pleaded with the Sector Commander Ebeniro to assist the ex-lawmakers obtain fancy number plates for their vehicles to spare them from unnecessary confrontation while driving.
Prince Nzekwe also pledged with the FRSC Sector Commander to ensure that rickety commercial vehicle especially the Imo City Transport buses plying the roads with their doors open are apprehended and brought to book because of the obvious dangers they pose to commuters just as he pleaded with him to do something urgently about the growing traffic jam on the popular Orji market (Nkwo Orji).
Responding, Aboki explained that LGAs previously held in bondage by the “IPOB Monday Sit Home Order” such as Orsu, Orlu and Okigwe had since been liberated, stating that the notorious and infamous IPOB MOTHER CAMP which had been in existence for ages had been demolished by the combined efforts of both the Police and the Military.
“We are through with the Eke Ututu market in Oru LGA and we are now heading for Okigwe and Governor Hope Uzodinma has been helping us and he has even promised to repair all our patrol vehicles and Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) and also to reconstruct all the 11 divisions burnt by criminals”.
Aboki extolled the ex-lawmakers for the visit and promised to partner with them in his service to the state.
Also speaking, the FRSC Sector Commander Ebeniro extolled the former lawmakers as men of honour and integrity who had left their footprints on the sands of the time through the making of qualitative progressive laws for the state, urging them to remain firm in their advisory role.
Ebeniro disclosed that the FRSC has 6 major routes in the state with 3 vehicles. He commended Governor Hope Uzodinma for his massive road construction, reconstruction and rehabilitation which he noted had enhanced free movement of people, goods and services but pleaded that something urgent be done on the deplorable road linking the FRSC with Naze and the Federal Polyethnic Nekede junction.
